Color composite (236 KB)
Acquired with the low resolution red and blue wide angle cameras over a 5 minute period starting when Mars Global Surveyor was at its closest point to the planet at the beginning of its 24th orbit (around 4:00 AM PDT on October 20, 1997).
Digital mosaic (40.6 KB)
The Viking obtained this view of Olympus Mons in January of 1994. A lovely purple hue.
Cool, crisp winter morning (32.7 KB)
The Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) obtained this spectacular wide-angle view of Olympus Mons on Mars Global Surveyor's 263rd orbit, around 10:40 p.m. PDT on April 25, 1998.
Graph (slopes/heights) (32 KB)
Instrument: Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter. Graph created on November 11th, 1997. Graph shows relative height between Olympus Mons and Mount Everest and more.
Caldera mosaic (98.7 KB)
This mosaic is constructed using pictures from the orbits 473S and 474S of Viking 1 near the end of its mission in 1980. As Viking 1 was near the lowest part of its orbit and moving very fast relative to the ground targets these pictures were shuttered using image motion compensation.
3D black/white image (60.6 KB)
This 3-dimensional image was created from several images of Olympus Mons. Each image was taken from a different spacecraft position and combined with a computer model of the surface topography to generate a perspective view.
